about

One of the very first songs I wrote, or started writing, circa 1971. It uses the "wandering hippie" song template that was popular back then. I don't remember when I finally considered it finished. Obviously, before 1986.

lyrics

When I look back to see what I have done,
I'll see my life has been a lot of fun
but all my dreams have gone up in smoke
That's what you get, when you smoke Killer Hope

When my guardian angels finally caught on
they tried to put me in some stranger's arms
those existential tax boys asked for a sign
I said if nothing matters, then everythings fine

So I searched for goodness far and wide
but they don't like it if you include the other side
I know there must be someplace hidden somewhere
where "they" treat people kind, equal and fair

Everybody I met said you're going the wrong way
you've got to cool your jets boy stop and stay
you hold the key to riches in your hand
just CHOP yourself a piece of the promised land

I always thought I knew how I wanted to live
but now I'm not sure what to get or give
If we can't reach perfection why even try
if we can't live perfection why not die
